Pre-wedding Shoots

Pre-wedding shoots, very topical. Some photographers do them, some don’t… Tim and I feel it is a very important part of preparation for a wedding and include it as standard in all our wedding packages. You get to see how we work, we see how you interact with each other. You get used to being in front of the camera, so no shyness or “woodenness” on the big day. You also pick up tips on what to do/what not to do, and we notice any little quirks or bad habits we need to watch out for! You can use the photos for a lovely Guest Book or signing board, and maybe even for invitations… This video gives you an idea of what a pre-wedding shoot involves. It’s usually good fun! New Wedding Price List

We have revamped our wedding packages in view of the ongoing economic problems in the South West, and in time for our first Wedding Fair of the year on Sunday at the Legacy Hotel, organised by Dream Weddings magazine. While our standard packages up until now are still available, these are not reduced in price. Destination Weddings in Italy

There’s a lot of buzz about destination weddings… More and more people are choosing to marry abroad, and the popular hotspots seem to be Italy, the Caribbean and the various Greek Islands… Weddings organised by resorts or local wedding planners often use in-house photographers. While many of these are skilled and talented, there are also many who are not, so it is important to be very careful… Make sure you have seen work by the actual photographer who has been allocated to shoot your wedding… You will have gone to a lot of trouble to organise your beautiful wedding abroad, so remember that the photographs will be all you have to remember it by, apart from your own memories… If you were getting married at home you would probably be much more choosy! There is always, however, an alternative… Take your photographer with you! For guaranteed peace of mind, do your research and book a photographer you like and trust, and someone who you can rely upon to provide you with a high quality luxury album, which will provide a beautiful reminder of your day, and become a family heirloom for the generations to come… The additional expense may be much less than you anticipate…

Western Professional Photographers’ Association Awards

I do like entering awards… Keeps me on my toes, always trying to improve my work, looking for something new… Too many photographers get into a rut with the same old, same old, resting on laurels from years ago. I think it is important for our clients to see that we are adaptable, progressive and innovative. For me, that’s why winning awards is worthwhile. It is also important to get feedback from experienced photographers, who encourage and give constructive criticism where it’s due. “Winning” reassures me that I am on the right tracks, doing the right thing, giving my best to my clients…

I was therefore thrilled to win the inaugural Western Professional Photographers’ Association Photographer of the Year Award with this image of pelicans, on Island Beach, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, which was the winner in the Science & Nature Category:

I also came second in the same category with this quirky fun pic of an emu… I love it!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these photos… This year I am trying to expand my business into selling more stock images for lifestyle, travel, etc, so this win gave me the confidence to pursue this side of photography a little more. I am also planning to have my first exhibition in the Spring, so watch this space! Winning this award also resulted in an invite on the BBC Radio Devon’s Good Morning Plymouth show last Friday. It is always nice to have a chat with the charming Gordon Sparks! I just hope that the BBC can find a way of saving our local radio…

I don’t know where the last few months have gone, and am very surprised to see how long it is since I have written anything for my blog! It’s not that I don’t have news, I have a lot of news! In the post I would like to share how pleased I am to be the SW Winner of the Mario Acerboni Wedding consumer award, for best 3 images from one wedding. It was all very glitzy at the national awards in Newcastle, and it was a great buzz to collect my award on the stage… These are the winning images, hope you like them…

Pre-wedding Shoot on HMS Bounty- Hayley & Adam

We were extremely fortunate recently to be allowed some private time on HMS Bounty for Hayley & Adam’s Pre-wedding Shoot… Many thanks to Sarah O’Leary, Plymouth Waterfront Manager, and the Captain & Crew of HMS Bounty. It was a delight and an honour to have the run of this fine vessel. HMS Bounty featured in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Hayley and Adam were so pleased to be able to use the ship, and we all really enjoyed the shoot.

We always include a pre-wedding shoot in our wedding packages. We see it as an essential part of the preparations for the wedding itself. There is no doubt in our minds that couples who have a pre-wedding shoot are more relaxed when it comes to the photographs on the day itself. The shoot itself helps the couple get to know us better, and get used to how we work. They pick up posing tips for the wedding, ensuring that the photography flows on the day… We pick up on how the couple interact with each other, gauge their sense of fun, and spot little things that we need to watch out for on the day… The photographs can even be used for invitations, signing books and signing boards.
